my thoughts
Christianiy is con fusing and I agree it is not simple /straightforward. The very fact of multitudes of differing denominations is testimony to the difficulties in the bible.Diffrent beliefs/interpretations from the same book. Just a thought- maybe the Bible is a record of peoples experiences and not innerant. Maybe it still has value but is not to be 100% literal , or it even contains errors because it is written by imperfect humans just relaying what they experienced. An interesting couple of points for anyone to think about. # In the resurrection story-its the women who are the first witnesses. Womens testimony was low in first century Palestine-if the story was fabricated why not amend or remove this.Not a convincing source for the first witnesses. # same as above but with regards to peters denial. Why leave it in? # I agree that their are differeing testimonies in gospels and new testament. If it was fabricated surely it could have been"made to be in harmony" with itself. If I was making it up,I would definately do a better job. In a strange way the inconsistencies actually make me believe it somewhat. Reading ancient history, many ancient Babylonian /Assyrian Kings just praised themselves and crapped on. This sort of thng is missing in the Bible. You would expect differing accounts as people remember things differently. # where does the bible ever say its innerant? The book of revelation says not to add or detract-but thats just talking about itself-one book. #Why have your main person of your religion crucified if its made up.Why not alter or amend the circumstances of his death to not be so demeaning by dyeing as a common criminal. Why include details of him being spat on,mocked? # If this story of the resurrection was made up-why leave a gap of 40(not sure of exactly the days) days between resurection and proclaimation by the apostles. The time delay makes you 'suspect". I would remove that if I was making it up. #Why include Jesus,s rebuke of peter - at caesera Phillipi (i think) when first Peter confesses Jesus to be Christ then says something that jesus basically calls him Satan. Why not leave this out to spare one of the main apostle some embarresment. # same as above for Thomas,s unbelief. Why include it? #Why include the many times jesus rebukes the disciples because of unbelief,fear ,sleepiness at Mount of Olives etc etc. Again -why not remove this embarrassing stuff. I was a committed Christian but have always had questions and doubts. I do think their are discrepencies that are very very hard to explain in the Bible. I dont know what to believe as their are good ponts on both sides of the table. Some days I feel its(religion) all false ,then sometimes its real . I do read the Bible and think its sincere and I dont think its all make believe or myth. But its certainly not easy or straightforward to believe. That really bugs me because if its revelation its not revelationary enough for me. If you read the bible and jesus comments its as if God doesn't want it to be easy-that ****** me off!! Jesus speaks in parables so the people wont understand-thats crazy!How many times did he have to expalin it privately to disciples. He even says he speaks to them in parables so they wont get it. Somewhere in Old Testament it says something like its Gods right to hide things and the glory of Kings to search them out. All I know is that If I were God I would make it easier to believe-as Its not easy. Last thought-The book of Revelation is meant to be a revelation. Can anyone understand it ? Its so out their and cryptic I would call it anything but a revelation. I am more confused and lost after reading it. Anyway-Its 2 am as I write and I apologise if my post is going in tangents and messy. PS-I live in Australia- one ,if not THE best place in the World.Come for a holiday if you have never been!
