Origins of bible authors

Hi, I'm new here, also an athiest.

I read your bible contradictions and they were good. I already knew that the bible was full of them, however, and have been given the excuse (by a devout Christian) that he believes that when the bible was written that the original scriptures were flawed to begin with because they were written by man. Which obviously makes sense. I'm trying to educate myself about religion because I don't want to be that athiest that doesn't know what they're talking about. I too am sick of hearing canned answers, but I'm also greatly hindered to begin with because of my simple lack of knowledge toward religion. I don't even know who wrote the bible or why people believe in it. I just need some help here starting so fresh in my studies.

Re: Origins of bible authors

The Bible was not written by one author, but by many. It was not written at one time, but over centuries and then compiled, translated, and published for us to read.

Texts from the Bible were put through a series of tests to ensure the worthiness to be included in what would become the Bible. One of those tests was that the work must have been written by a prophet or an apostle (or one writing under the authority of an apostle). These men were moved by God to write what they wrote, creating a thread of commonality between each work, despite their varying literary forms and vocabulary.

I hope that blather makes sense.
