Anna-Nicole Smith vs Brian
I couldn't help but draw comparisons between the two. Not that I know much about Anna or want to, but how much do we truly know of her. Both died young, both had their funerals turned into a circus, both have offspring in need of DNA test matches, both led such tragic (misunderstood?)lives coming from an abusive background, both blonde and sex symbols, both found fame a trap being unable to trust anyone/not knowing who to trust. Both disrespected for their hedonistic lifestyle and drug use. Both with drugs suspected as a possible tool in their murders. Both with nurses supposedly present yet with quite a delay in the response time of the ambulance workers. Both with controlling people in their lives in the final days, both with money likely at the root of their death/murder.

...And sadly, these days, Brian doesn't get much more respect than Anna Nicole Smith from stones fans (or from Keith).
I think whenever the truth about Brian's death comes out, it will do alot to clear his reputation and that he had turned himself around in his final weeks.

In fact Brian gets lots of respect from Stones fans, and not only from the older ones. It is those people behind this "investigation" who do not get much (and increasingly lesser)respect from Stones fans. That is a different thing.

Re: Anna-Nicole Smith vs Brian
Hello, Robert.
I'd have to disagree with you. Being a fellow stones fan, who was a stones fan first and foremost for over 15 years before "discovering" Brian Jones, and having been and followed numerous stones internet message boards, I'd have to say although there are some stones fans of various ages who are also BJ fans, there is much more disrespect for Brian than there is respect and understanding for him, on the whole.
I initially created this Brian Jones website because I noticed there was a gap in the 2 camps, and this was to be a place for those who are both stones fans and BJ fans...it soon became apparent how few of those there are on the web. Nice that you're one of them.
As for the disrespect you speak of toward the investigation into his death, there is disrespect, and that only comes from stones fans who prefer to keep their head in the sand and don't support wanting the truth to come out, whatever the truth may be. I suspect their own fears of what may be found about their heroes are at the root of their "disrespect" and slander of the investigation. The majority of true Brian fans do support the investigation since they want the truth and justice for Brian, and also want any money owed to Brian to go to his children. Several of his children also support the investigation. And contrary to what I've read on a stones board out of some vain attempt to slander BJ fans, none of us want Brian exhumed "to see what he looks like". We do support exhumation if that is needed to lead to the truth of how he died.

Re: Anna-Nicole Smith vs Brian
The way I see it is that Stones fans in general don't slander Brian, they slander not even the investigations, but they slander the way it is done and the way people like Trevor deal with it in public.
Of course, there are younger fans who jumped on the Stones wagon in the 80's or 90's, and are focussing on the Ron Wood era-Stones. But there is no bad will, they are just not aware how important Brian was - remember, he died in 1969. But they can work their way back to discover who Brian was and how important he was for the band - just like I did when I became a Stones fan in 1976. And all those Brian Fan Clubs could help to make people aware, this would be a good cause. Not in a way that he was the one and only, because this only alienates people. Just like any fanatism alienates people. The older fans know, and I don't know any older fans who don't respect Brian.

Re: Anna-Nicole Smith vs Brian
Hmmm, interesting. I've seen alot of slander against Brian, Brian Jones fans, and many stones fans who are opposed to any kind of investigation and just want things to stay in the past....they usually use the term "let him rest in peace", which of course is a bit ironic given all the slander to this day and the lack of justice in his death. Trevor has been very discreet, but many also demand answers and info from him, then criticise when some info is given...so it's abit of a catch 22. Some people who are opposed of course would criticize no matter what.
You're right that many older fans who have seen the stones in the BJ era are more likely to be Brian fans and to be more respectful. The younger/middle aged fans can work their way back by reading up on Brian, however gleaming any truth about his death in the books would be futile, but the books are good in terms of his talent and character, especially Bill Wyman's "Stone Alone". And it was good of Bill to set the record straight there about Brian and his treatment in the band, musical contribution etc. These days it seems history is being rewritten about Brian's role/contribution in the band.
I think the problem is alot of younger fans don't bother to read up on Brian, because of myths about him, or negative things they've heard of him...we do know a certain band member who has slandered Brian quite often. I know for a long time when I first became a stones fan at age 16, I didn't have much interest in Brian for that reason....until I started reading books about him over 15 years later. I like all the eras, including the Mick Taylor and Ron Wood eras....I don't think that makes me any less a Brian fan. I think Brian would have liked MT & RW.
How did you get into Brian?

Re: Anna-Nicole Smith vs Brian
How I got into Brian? I guess it was through the Rolled Golled 2LP greatest hits album which my parents bought me in 1976 which made me aware that there were Rolling Stones before "It's Only Rock'n'Roll". Of course I knew Satisfaction, but I was very young back in 1976 and did not think too much about the Stones glorious past, well not until Rolled Gold with all these gems. Of course I heard bad things about Brian about his drugs abuse sooner or later, but did not care too much because I also heard about Keith's drug abuse at the same time, and the Stones were regarded as EVIL as a whole back then!
