Culture of Peru

People in Peru speak the Spanish, Aymara, and Quechua languages. The linguistic diversity of Peru is diverse according to a fractionalization scale which for Peru is 0.3358. The followers of Christianity are the religious majority in the country. 77.3% of Peru's population live in cities. This percentage comprises the urban population of Peru. The rate of urbanization in Peru is considered to be 1.6. According to data on inbound tourists in Peru, 3,164,000 tourists arrive in the country each year.

National anthem
The national anthem of Peru is called 'Himno Nacional del Perú', which in English means 'National Anthem of Peru'. It was adopted in 1821. The lyrics have been written by José de la Torre Ugarte y Alarcón and the music has been composed by Jose Bernardo Alcedo.

Fast food
The first McDonalds in Peru was opened on 18 October 1996, and it was located in Lima. At the moment Peru has 40 operating McDonalds restaurants. The number of operating McDonalds restaurants in a country is indicative of the influence of Western culture and globalization in that country. Operating McDonalds restaurants could also have a direct impact on the health of a nation's citizens. Around 16% of the population of Peru are obese.

Alcohol consumption
Each year, the people of Peru consume 2 litre of alcohol per capita, and this volume consists of 46.8% beer, 6.1% wine, 47.1% distilled spirits, 0% other alcohol.

National dish
One of the most popular national dishes of Peru is ceviche.
