My wife and I were involved in an auto accident with an 18-wheeler 2 years ago. My wife suffered a bad back injury and permanent nerve damage and is no longer able to work. She was forced to retire on disability but her disability is less than $700 a month. I'm 62 and am retired as well. However, my income is just enough to pay for normal household bills. My wife's medical bills are now more than $120,000 and this does not include our medicine prescriptions we both need each month. She is currently taking 8 medicines each day (some of these are for her other medical problems) and I take 6 every day. We DO have a lawsuit pending which involves the trucking company who hit us, but until her doctors tell her that she's reached maximum medical potential, this lawsuit cannot go any further. Once her specialist believes she's reached this, it will take at least 6 months before the case is settled. Her specialist tells her that now that it could be another 6-8 months before he's comfortable saying she's reached her maximum medical potential. Each month we're getting deeper and deeper into the hole. We have our medicines, doctor's visits, loans we've had to take out to survive, groceries....I could go on and on. We've tried all other ways of getting money and have now reached our ropes end. We have nothing more to sell. We're now behind in our light bill, phone bill, car payments, etc. and I'm afraid of the lights and phone being turned off. Our home is paid for, but we are not able to get a loan on this because we live in an old mobile home. I'm not even sure if I'll be able to get her prescriptions filled next month (thankfully I'm a veteran and am able to use our local VA hospital for all my care and medicines). I'm desperately trying to keep our heads above water, but each month we're getting worse. Please help us if you can. Thank you for ANYTHING you can do...even a penny would help.
