Mr Idos

Anyone who is lucky enough to have a copy of the Tang Soo Do/Soo Bahk Do MDK Vol. 1 (white book) will know that Mr Idos is credited with the Pyong Ahns, now this is info for the beginners out there, and just thought it would help the newer student s who are interested in the history of the Pyong Ahns.

Mr Idos is the name we find in Vol. 1 ,this may be the only time we needto see this namw , Mr Idos is also known as Yasutsune Itosu, Anko Shizu, and variations of these. Why? well basically the Family name is Itosu, but the written Kanji Characters,
can be pronounced either in ancient chinese(on) or in Japanese(kun) or a mixture of both, now add in the western habit of putting the family name second instead of first so if you wanted to be more correct it would be Itosu Yasutsune, the western way would be Yasutsune Itosu. Confused?
OK now remember Itosu(kun, japanese) is also Shishu(on,ancient chinese) and Yasutsune (kun, japanese) is also Anko(on ancient chinese),

So when you are looking up historys remember to really look at te names
