Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Quinine in Tonic Water

Do you take it all at once or broken up over the day, and did your doctor prescribe it to you? I have taken Mexilitine for 25 years and it works well, I would love to give Quinine a try just to see if it works as good if not better, I can always go back to Mexi if not

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Quinine in Tonic Water

Hi John.....I have taken Quinine for 14 years. I've been taking the 325 mg. because that is what the over the counter mg was at the time. I was buying by myself before having it prescribed. I would take it once in the morning and it worked great. The Doctor prescribed it for me because I told him it worked for me. I am hoping that the 200 mg of the new pills from United Pharmacy (if they get here) will work just as well. Since I ran out of my prescription March 1, I have been taking a homeopathic remedy for "Leg Cramps" and a homeopathic muscle relaxant. I am surprised that I am doing so well. It's not "good", but at least I am not falling over. I feel the muscles "clenching" but then letting go.....also a heaviness in my legs. I feel more tired than usual. I will be so happy when the Quinine arrives from New Zealand. I've never tried anything other than the Quinine. It worked so well for me that I never even considered anything else.=)

That is awesome!! I spoke to my Doctor today and he is setting up an appointment with a Neurologist for me. The only Doctor here in Nova Scotia that has first hand experience in MC is a Doctor at the childrens hospital, and his first hand experience is me LOL. I am not looking forward to seeing the new Doctor and start all over from the begining. I just want to move on not make a big deal out of it and get going. But I suppose my Doctor would be crazy to prescribe something to me without seeing a specialist first.....All I know is that I am excited and can't wait to give my input

Re: quinine substitute

Yay...... I got my quinine today from United Pharmacies in New Zealand. I had to sign for them with the postman. Have not tried them yet as I had one of my regular 325 mg. Quinines left that I was saving. Had a stressful night so was extra stiff this morning. Anyway.... I will let you know if the 200's work as well. I am keeping my fingers crossed. If not, I guess I can do 200 morning and 200 evening...........or all at once. But.... I believe the 200 will work as I was not too bad doing with the homeopathic remedies. The only other change for me is that in the time frame of taking Quinine, I have gone thru Menopause. Could that have something to do with the severity I wonder??? Anyway....I am very happy to have received this shipment. If it works I am going to immediately send for more and stock up just in case this avenue is also taken away from us. =)) I cannot believe that there was no prescription needed. Wow.

Re: Re: quinine substitute

Great news, Patti. I'm looking forward to hearing how it works out for you. And, I'm looking forward to receiving my shipment... This week hasn't been too bad but I'm definitely feeling the stiffness and the constant ache that goes along with it especially at night! Keep us posted...

Re: Re: Re: quinine substitute

Hi again.......I have not been able to get on the internet lately as my computer "died". i think it is the power source. Anyway..... I am having it fixed and should be done after this coming Thursday. Right now I am on a friends computer. So far so good with the quinine from United Pharmacies. The 200 mg in pill form rather than the 325 in capsule is noticible, but not so much that I feel the need to take it 2 times per day. I notice the stiffness in the morning where I did not with my previous prescription. It kicks in after a couple hours though and I am fine. I like to take as little medication of anything that I can. So if I have an occassion where I need extra "looseness", I will just take another of the lower dose quinine that I now have. I am thinking, Stephanie, that you probably have had to take more of them since you were used to a lot higher dose than I was. Have you gotten yours yet?? How is it working for you?? John....I am wondering if you have tried it?????????? Ok.....I will go for now. Please excuse any typo's....this laptop has really small print and I don't see that well anyway. I am missing my computer a LOT. Only a couple days to go though....I can make it =))

Re: Re: Re: Re: quinine substitute

Re: Re: Re: Re: quinine substitute

Yes, I did receive my shipment of quinine about a week and a half ago. (Exercise did help me manage better without the medicine; it kept me a bit more limber.) I'm taking 600 mg per day which is standard for me and it is working fine. I still have early morning stiffness which I always did but the quinine seems to take about an hour to kick in which is manageable. The downside with the medication is its tablet form. I have been experiencing a bit of nausea and an upset stomach in the morning for a couple of hours after I take it. Never had that problem with capsules. I'm taking it with milk, which seems to help, and trying to stagger the dosage when my schedule allows. All in all, I am VERY THANKFUL for United Pharmacies and hope that their supply doesn't run out!
