I agree. Stress is the worst factor for my son and he knows it and has his mind in avoidance mode when anything stressful comes his way....including me...Ha Ha. I do think that foods and environmental chemicals can be challenging also. He has learned well what to avoid....including me sometimes:(:(:(
Actually, mine has gotten better with age and treatment. I sought a diagnosis beacuse I needed some help.
At one time all my muscles were a cramped, tight, and painful mess. Getting klonapin treatment for a handful of years made me feel the best I had in my entire life. My muscles were even "soft" like other folks. And I lost over 40 pounds. Even after going off Klonapin, it took a long... time for my muscles to get hard and cranky again.
Prior to my diagnosis, I just suffered. And had a lot of weird problems that got me strange looks from the docs. And it made me hesitant to ask for help.
One of my strange problems, is that when I cough laying down, my breathing muscles spasm. Almost takes my breath away. A bout of pneumonia, will take my breath away, really bad, when this happens. And it scares the heck out of me. My most recent treatment reduced the severity of the spasms.
Now if only I can get my calfs and feet in order.
Even after my diagnosis, docs had a hard time realizing that my back and hip aches and pains are from tight muscles. And also from manuvering around tight muscles. I have known it all along.
Or what about my neck spasming, when suddenly turning it, so that it gets stuck. In traffic you have to pry it back, and fast. Know what that does over time? Try advanced axial atlanta arthritis. Snap, crackle, pop it goes....
Just wait until you get older, myotonia wrecks havok on your body. You will have plenty to complain about and will be armed with a diagnosis.
