Jan - I was always a firm hand-shaker, and would wiggle my hand around a lot when I anticipated having to shake someone's hand. But, of course, that often didn't work, and I would be left trying to extricate myself from one of those vise-grip shakes.
So when my hands/wrists were injured, I finally had an easy and obvious excuse to have a wimpy handshake. (it really does hurt to really shake now, so it's self- preservation! WHEW!!!) lol......Lois
