Hernias, keugal patch, anyone else have problems with hernias
Here I go again with a long post...
OK here is my history...
I was diagnosed with MC in 1984 (at age 14) after many years of wrong diagnoses.
I have had 2 Cesareans (1993 and 1995) then in 1999 I had an emergency exploratory surgery and they removed adhesions that were wrapped around my intestines.
In May 2005 the incision site ripped apart and they estimate I had over 120 hernias so they put in an extra large keugal patch (yes it is the recalled one but it is doing fine).
Feb. 2006 I had to have another small patch put in because the first one let loose on one side.
This summer (2011) I was found to have bleeding ulcers, hiatal hernia, low functioning gallbladder and more adhesions. These adhesions are attached to my stomach, uterus, and bladder but they determined that they would not do anything about it for now because it was simply causing discomfort and not blocking anything yet and removing the adhesions would be a "morbid surgery" because they would need to probably remove the patch while they were in there.
So, all that being said, is it possible that the MC was the cause of the incision site ripping open in the first place?
Anyone else have a similar situation?

Suzi,
There is some evidence that myotonia is correlated with inguinal hernias, especially myotonic muscular dystrophy. Both of my daughers with MC had inguinal hernias.
But MC would not inpact skin fragility, adhesions or the other symptoms you describe. You might want to take a look at the information on this website:
http://www.adhesions.org/index.htm
There is a condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome that affects collagen formation and can cause poor healing from surgical scars. This would be diagnosed by a rheumatologist. There are four types and multiple adhesions and severe scarring are common features.

I have a hiatal hernia, and while I'm not sure if it's related to the MC, I've had some unpleasant interactions between the two due to my abdominal muscles and diaphragm muscles moving in ways and at times they really shouldn't. I have to be really careful when I stretch my body with my arms above my head so that my stomach doesn't get pulled/squeezed up through my diaphragm and it clamps back down on it...at least I think that's what happens.
I imagine if you have weaknesses in your abdominal wall for some reason, having myotonia in your abdominal muscles might attribute to herniation because (in my experience) it can really squeeze your insides good.
Additionally abdominal distress tends to cause the abdominal muscles to contract.
