Re: Thomsens and childbirth

Hello Anja

I hope your appointment went/goes well.

I've had 2 children in the last 10 years and had no childbirth problems due to MC. My doctors told me that MC only affects 'voluntary' muscles, but in childbirth it's the 'smooth' muscles which are involved and Thomsen's MC doesn't affect them at all. Just like it doesn't affect other automatic movements like your heart beating.

The only problem I had was that I fell over a couple of times in late pregnancy because it's harder to balance with a bump, and because of the MC I couldn't stop the fall and fell right to the ground. Luckily nothing serious resulted -- it would be unlikely as the baby is well protected.

Best wishes with your pregnancy and birth -- I hope it goes really smoothly. I'm sure MC won't be a problem.

All the best
Pippa

Re: Thomsens and childbirth

This is more for future people than you!

My labors were very fast, and I passed out while pushing without supplemental oxygen, which is definitely not normal! When I would black out, the baby's heart rate dropped, too, so just try to keep your oxygen up.

While MC isn't supposed to effect smooth muscles, my contractions were so close together at the end that they ran together. I would have a mere 30 second dip between contractions that lasted nearly a minute long.

My voluntary muscles did cramp, ache, and spasm in childbirth, meaning that was I EXTREMELY clumsy in labor. It was also a bit harder to relax my perineum to minimize tearing, but I did scrape by both natural births with VERY little damage at all.
