Optic neuritis

Hi, I posted here a few weeks ago but I also left out that 7 years ago I had optic neurtis in one eye. I never knew what could have caused it. After an injury a few months ago and an EMG test for my nerve injury I was told I had myotonia. I am wondering if Optic neuritis is a common symptom of Myotonia ? If anyone had optic neuritis with myotonia please let me know . I am very confused at this point. Thanks. Gia

Re: Optic neuritis

Gia,

Optic neuritis is usually caused by a viral infection, especially viruses in the herpes family. Shingles are often associated with optic neuritis.
It is also very common in multiple sclerosis, but since it was so long ago I suspect yours was viral. I had it after contracting West Nile Virus.

Because it is caused by nerve inflammation, it would not be associated with MC. Is your doctor ordering the DNA testing? That will help you know for sure what type of myotonia you're dealing with. It's always a relief to have a name for the all the weird symptoms we experience!

Hi Jan hope all is well with you. Thank you again for the reply back to me. I am going to see a specialist for a DNA test very soon.
