One thing that they don't mention is that it greatly decreases your tolerance for alcohol so you have to be very careful if you drink while on this medication.

The main side effects that have been reported to me are related to mood changes. There have been some very serious mental disturbances, especially in younger people, and in at least one case I know of personally it was permanent. In my opinion myotonia congenita is just not debilitating enough to risk this drug.

Another one you might ask about is Lamictal (lamotrigene). It is being used by some doctors as a replacement for Mexitil in Europe.
