my family recently came in contact with a pesticide called Bifenthrin which is a pyrathriod

yesterday they came and sprayed my apartment for pests with in 30 min i was stiff and having spasams with tightness in my chest and back making it hard to breath. it is the same with me for to day. my 4 year old woke up puking this morning. she hasnt been able to keep anything down. and my other child is complaining that it feels like someone punched her in the legs and tightness in her chest and back. has any one had any thing simalar to this. im trying to get my children in to the regular doctor. they are just going to stare and make me feel stupid like they do every time i bring up myotonia. and tell me it has nothing to do with what ever. i guess its time to officialy have my family diagnosed so we may be seen by the experts. o and i looked up pyrathriods and it did mention having an affect on sodium and chloride channels i think. reading through it you would think they were speaking a diffrent language

Sarah,

I'm so sorry you had to deal with the reactions. That's exactly what happens to my family when we're exposed.

You might want to see if there is a medical toxicologist in your area...the county medical association should be able to tell you. That would be a good start to document the effects. There are plenty of studies showing the action of pyrethroids on the chloride ion channel.

I am on a state pesticide registry so that I am notified any time there is spraying in or near my complex. That has saved me a lot of problems.

If your doctor can't get you in, it would be good if you could go to the ER at a children's hospital to be sure you kids are okay. I don't know that you'd get much help at a regular ER.

so i called the the state pesticide registry. they want $50 and the $10 every 4 months to keep me on the list...SIGH....thats going to have to wait for a few months so we can save up. 3 years ago this would not have been a problem. i could have gone and paid it that day. Now we even count our pennys barely living pay check to pay check. could this get any more depressing. and baby girl is better today. noticed alot of muscle twitching in her sleep and whimpering. ooh and a nice hot chamomile bath helped her stomac muscles and the rest of her muscles to relax enough. she stopped puking after and fell right to sleep

I can't believe your state makes you pay to be on the registry! It would be a good idea to call the environmental health section of your county health department and report the reaction to them. It really sounds like they used a concentrated dose for her to become that ill and the company needs to be investigated.

I was interested in your comment about chamomile helping. I looked it up to see if it might have an effect on the chloride ion channel, and it does:

Chamomile

This is about the GABA receptors on the chloride ion channel in the brain, but it should have a similar impact on skeletal muscle.

Thanks for sharing!

If your daughter has been vomiting after they sprayed pesticide,I would take her to the hospital.
