I am not able to tolerate any anti-inflammatories so I had to find natural treatments for pain. There are a few things that really help me.
The main supplement I use is the amino acid L-Histidine which has been proven beneficial for arthritis and is a natural anti-inflammatory. The dose is 500-1000 mg per day. You need to be sure you're getting a little zinc in a daily vitamin supplement.
DHEA is a good anti-inflammatory because it helps increase cortisol naturally. 5-HTP is a precursor to serotonin which helps with sleep.
Many people take the combination glucosamine and chondroitin for arthritis in the US. I have never used them so I can't tell you how effective they are from personal experience.
I'm with you on wanting to avoid the morphines/opiates if possible.
