Does Red Bull help relieve MC symptoms as effectively as L-Taurine capsule?

I also have a question about L-Taurine. Is it the same ingredient as those in drinks like Red Bull? Will drinking Red Bull have the same effect as taking the L-Taurine capasules? One of my biggest pains caused by MC is the hardship of swallowing pills. I would rather take everything liquid to avoid the painful gagging experience.

Best Regards,

Tom, many people have told me that their myotonia improved when they used energy drinks containing large amounts of taurine. The problem is that they also often contain sugar and caffeine so it's much better to use L-Taurine if possible.

There were some studies done in Italy which showed that taurine supplementation does help with myotonia. I believe they were using 3-4 grams, but 1 gram a day should be adequate to see improvement. (That's the amount usually found in one energy drink.)

I can't swallow pills, either, so I always buy my supplements in capsule form and just open the capsule and mix into something like applesauce. If it dissolves well in liquid (and taurine does) you can take it mixed in juice or milk or some other beverage.

Dear Jane,

Thank you for the good advice. I'm using 1 gram a day now and already feeling the improvement. Yes, L-Tarine easily dissolves into water and is almost tasteless.
