Re: Gradebook programs

We use SDS - Gradebook throughout our district. In the past year we have gone to the option that allows parents and students to view the grade at any time. In the beginning, we were getting frequent emails from parents asking for explanations of grades but towards the end of the year students seemed to take much more accountibility for their own grade. The system works for us!

Re: Gradebook programs

We use Progressbook in our school system. The office puts all the students into the correct class list and we can work with it from there. It is nice, all I have to do is enter a grade by points or letter and the computer puts the actual score down for me. This make it easy to put grades in on a daily basis for the students. Used to have to do it the old fashioned way and put them in a paper gradebook. With this program I have not had to use a paper gradebook for years.

Re: Gradebook programs

Just a quick question. Does your school still ask you to print out paper copies of the gradebook? Our administration asks us to print copies every week or so in case the gradbook software wipes out. I've never had an issue with it and wonder if it's really necessary to print a paper copy. Seems like such a waste!

Re: Gradebook programs

We do not have to print out paper copies because the tech department does a nightly backup of the gradebook system so nothing is lost. If something went wrong then the backup can reinstall everything with all grades up to date.

Re: Gradebook programs

My school uses powerschool. It is pretty easy to use and parents/students can access it online.

Re: Gradebook programs

We use a program called progress book. Parents and students can access this program to check their grades. Teachers can see when the parent or student checked their grades. The program also prints out the students grades.

Re: Gradebook programs

We use a program called Sapphire Gradebook. It is an online program that can be accessed from home and school. It also has a feature where parents and students can view assignments and grades. We as teachers can control what the parents can and cannot see.

Re: Gradebook programs

We also have a program that allows students and parents to access their grades from home. However, we do not have the ability to know when our students and/or parents have checked their grades - that would be good to know!

Re: Gradebook programs

We also use progress book and the special education teachers can link IEPs and the school nurse can link any special medical issues so every teacher can have instant access to this information.

Re: Gradebook programs

We our currently using a pilot program through our IU which I have found to be very confusing and always having a lot of glitches. I have used Power school in the past and found it to be very easy to use. Along with being very easy to use parents and students could access their grades at any point throughout the semester.

Re: Gradebook programs

Our district uses Genesis, which I really like. I find it user friendly and works very well with health and physical education grading. Beginning in September of this year, parents will have access to view their child's grades for all classes through the Genesis program. I think one of the best aspects of this program is that I am able to carry over year after year, the same grade setup and don't have to start all over each new school year.

Re: Gradebook programs

My school has used many of the grade books that have been mentioned before. We currently use a program called Skyward. I personally like it because I can access it at home on any computer. It is easy to use and you can access all of your personal employee information on it. Parents can access it online at home and you can view how often they get on the site. We needed our tech person to adapt the program to make grading for PE easier. Overall, I like it.

Re: Gradebook programs

The school systems I have worked with were supplied with a grading program - we did not have a choice. I have used Grade Quick, GradeSpeed, and ASPEN.

Re: Gradebook programs

We are in our second year of using a new gradebook. It is called PowerSchool. Like anything else that's new, there is the initial learning curve, but it seemed to go real fast. It is very user friendly. We are able to look up emergency contacts, the students schedules, current grades, and IEPs. We are able to create attendance records, and post comments for the quarter grades. Not to mention, when entering quarter and semester grades the program actually does it for you. So, when you go to enter your grades it just takes the click of a button. One downside to this gradebook, however, is that I cannot create a "class" of my football players, and track their grades. I would love to be able to create a class just for my players so I can keep up on their progress, and speak with them directly if I have an issue. Other than that, I really enjoy our current system.
