F.A.S.T. or firefighter assist search team is used during the first stages of a working fire. It has been shown in the first few moments of a working fire that firefighters have the chance of becoming injured or trapped. The FAST objective is to get to the firefighter while other firefighters can continue suppression efforts.
Before FAST when a firefighter put out a Mayday every firefighter would do whatever it would take to get the fallen brother but, suppression efforts stoppped and the fire gained control. Also the IC had no control of the efforts.
The FAST does just that, it gives the IC control if a firefighter goes down.

IN BUFFALO NY THE FAST COMPANY IS USUALLY THE 3RD DUE TRUCK CO ON THE BOX, THE TEAM STAYS AT THE FRONT OF THE FIRE BUILDING ,WITH THIER EQUIPMENT, READY TO GO IN IN THE EVENT OF A EMERGENCY, THEY WILL STAY TILL THE CHIEF FEELS THE CHANCES OF INJURY ARE OVER,AND THE CONDITIONS ARE SAFE AND USUALLY STAY TILL MOST OF THE OVERHAUL IS COMPLETED,AS THAT IS A TIME WHEN ALOT CAN GO WRONG . ALL COPANIES ARE TRAINED TO BE FAST TEAMS

oh ok Guys that helps.. That is like us over here.. we just call it a Rapid Intervention Crew.. RIC and we use an Engine Co.. since Truck companies are only a couple city wide.. Thanks for the Info Guys..
