Re: Corgi UK Volvo 6-Wheel Lorry, Central Scotland Fire and Rescue

Hope the model is better than the photo - no blue light bar, no moffet mounty forklift truck on the back.... Make a change for Corgi to get the detail right first time!!!!

Re: Corgi UK Volvo 6-Wheel Lorry, Central Scotland Fire and Rescue

That's a good size rig! What do they use the forklift for? Fast removal of what's in the box?

Re: Corgi UK Volvo 6-Wheel Lorry, Central Scotland Fire and Rescue

Yes, it has quite a few pallets/containers in the rear of the truck.
There are a few UK rescue trucks that also have a fork truck for use during roadside emegencies too.

Re: Corgi UK Volvo 6-Wheel Lorry, Central Scotland Fire and Rescue

Paul Slade (Fire Brigade Models) along with Alan Smith (Hartsmith models) have produced a limited number of these trucks as well -- available built up or as a kit. I'm currently working on (early stages -- cleaning up the flash) one of the kits -- the kit Paul sent me was one of the first that he had produced, without instructions. The box is resin as are a few of the chassis components, but the rest is metal. The fork lift is a neat kit in itself.... Incidentally, the photos attached to this thread and others that I have found on the web have been a big help in figuring out how the truck should look. I saw one in England two years ago, but was unable to photograph it....

Re: Corgi UK Volvo 6-Wheel Lorry, Central Scotland Fire and Rescue

Hello,

James, I can get you as many pictures as you need of the Paul Slade type metal kit of what we call an I.R.U. (incident response unit). We have one in our Brigade and it is at the next station over from mine. Every Brigade in the UK received one from the government, with some Brigades such as London receiving multiples. There are around 53-55 vehicles of this type in service. They are the property of the govermnet not the individual Brigades and are only to be used in the event of terrorist attacks and large scale disasters. There are various types of these units but the particlular one you are building is a mass decontamination vehicle. All the equipment is stowed in cages and removed by the de-mountable forklift. The cages contain hot and cold decon, gas tight suits, decon showers, de-robe and re-robe clothing packs, lighting etc... The vehicles are built on a MAN chassis and coachbuilt by Marshalls. The roof raises on the rear of the vehicle to allow the individual cages to be removed. The whole sides are of a curtain type.

The Corgi model is of a individual Brigades own version which is used for every day use.

Let me know James if you want pictures.

Re: Corgi UK Volvo 6-Wheel Lorry, Central Scotland Fire and Rescue

the links to the MAN IRU isnt the one the Corgi model is based on.

As Darren said its one based on a support unit that indvidual brigades have (tyne and wear have a similar operational support unit just with the older FL6 cab).

Nice to see corgi finally release a new modern model to the UK 999 collection - (i also see they are releasing that sodding dennis f12 yet AGAIN (got im getting sick of seeing this model release year after year in a new livery)

Re: Corgi UK Volvo 6-Wheel Lorry, Central Scotland Fire and Rescue

actually not quite related to fire, but have you seen those 1:43scale ford transit models they are releasing. They are shocking - compare the corgi ones to the Hongwell version.

The Hongwell version will proberly be half the price and is 100000 times more detailed.

Make you wonder what corgi are somethimes thinking when they come up with rubbish like that.
