Does anyone have any good info on what colors to use for FDNY? Best type of paints to use(Resin or metal figures)? And best way to weather them?
Thanks
John
John,
Can't advise on colour, but on that small scale I think enamel will look better than acrylics. Undercoat with white or black, but always allow for that when selecting the top colour: the white undercoat will brighten the top colour, black will darken it. For weathering go to the local arts and crafts shop and get a dark brown watercolour paint and a large amount of thinner. Put a small amount of the watercolour in the thinner and mix it up. Then put a thin "wash" over the figure: it is absorbed in the creases and highlights the figure. Allow each wash to dry before repeating and be very careful - everyone messes this up first time and weathers too much. (The first vehicle I ever weathered ended up looking like it had been baked in an oven.) A final matt varnish will stop the whole thing flaking off over time!
