With increasing problems and frustration reported from the pop-up ads on this bullentin board, shall we move all our traffic to the forums on fireengines.net?

We could just stop posting here, and start posting there.

And post one or two "no more posting" notes here, pointing people to the new board.

And, perhaps, every couple months, someone could come to this board, and repeat that posting.

I personally don't have any problems with Bravenet, because I use Firefox and a plug-in to disable Javascript, which takes care of the pop-ups...

For the most part my pop-up blocker gets MOST of them, I'm indifferent either way, but would just like to have this board the way it was a few months back--w/out the popups. I thought Jeff was working that.

I generally surf it at work b/c I'd rather infect a work PC than my own, but the network firewall and virus protection is superior. We never have issues.

Everyone is welcome to use the FireEngines.net forums. We try and monitor it at least once a day to keep the porn off.

One good thing is you can post photographs directly from your local computer.

I wouldn't mind moving the postings but it would be a little more user friendly if it was more like the Hobby Heaven Message Board. It's direct and easy to reply to messages with a single click of the button. And they also take pic postings.

used to be a Federal Employee and we weren't allowed

Those who want to move or post on another board are quite welcome to, but I dont think anyone has the right to post any "no more posting" messages.
This board has always worked for me, even with pop-ups.

Ron "Grumpy", I, too, check this site out while at work, as I am a career firefighter/paramedic and have plenty of time on my hands between calls. I don't look upon surfing the 'net while on the job as "wasting the taxpayers dollars". FYI: People surfing the 'net while at work is NOT why this country is in "the dumper." Chill out.

Thanks JM82 for putting things into perspective. There is a thing called 'perks' that they give these days in the workplace. It's a little thing like being able to surf the net or check personal email that tend to boost moral. No workplace ever retains employees when they are governed by an iron fist or supervised by people that are probably like Ron.

And for the record....I'm on vacation and even if I wasn't there's never been a deadline or deliverable missed on my watch or by anyone on my squad. We're a dedicated crew.

Guess maybe Ron should start his campaign for '08 now and get this country out of the 'dumper.'

Hey Don, I think you missed the point. It's not about hitting the x button but what attaches to ones computer that is the issue. As others have stated,
one is sandbaged by these ads and have caught a virus in the process.

As far as closing this Board I will go with the majority and be happy with that. In regards to using
the computer at work you two both know that this is
WRONG, this is NOT what you get paid to do. I was a
cop and we could NOT use our computers for personal
business, you get paid to work your 8 hour shift or
14 or 24 hour shifts and that is what you should be
doing, earning your pay. One of the reasons this country is in the dumper is very simple, at work we
have gotten into the habit of playing, in the government all you have to do for a raise is put in the time, show up breathing and its automatic and as
for firefighters and cops and ems people its usually
given by the dictates of your work contract usually acquired through your Union. Another reason for us
being in the dumper is because of a failed President,
incompetent members of Congress and a Bureaucratic
corps of Professional Bureaucrats who if they were out of Government would probably NOT survive. I don't have to run for office, although I have done that in the past, but, we, THE SILENT MAJORITY will take this Country back in November and WE WILL remind these Politicians and Bureaucrats that THEY WORK FOR US and not the other way around.

Ron, maybe we're not technically paid to sit around and surf the 'net while on the job, but after our workday is over (about 4 PM) it's "after hours" for us, as in the chief goes home and we get to eat dinner and watch TV, which, I guess, you think is wrong, too, as firefighters are "not paid to eat." Hey, we career guys and gals get paid to "sleep on the job" as well, when night time rolls around and it gets to be late. I guess you think that's wrong, too. We're human as well and need our rest, just like you. Sometimes we even get called out during the night! Believe me, I've heard plenty about cops sleeping on the job in their patrol cars on the overnight shift.

Ron, unfortunately you sound like a bitter retired cop. I'm sorry if this rattles you or anyone else here for that matter. You sound like you were a "by-the-book" cop, and sometimes that's OK. I do, believe it or not, agree with you on some of the things as to why this country is going down into the dumper. Surfing the internet while at work is NOT one of them! Sometimes a little distraction during the workday helps relieve tension and stress to those who work for jackass iron-fisted tyrants.

As for the popups here on this board, yeah they're annoying and frustrating. I wish they'd go away, but apparently they'll be here for awhile.

You might have a point about your down time and maybe it is a technical issue, I know that we could not use
the computers of the department for personal matters
of any kind, when I was on we did not have them in the cars like they do now although I still don't see the guys who are actively working using their car computers for personal matters. I am not a bitter, retired cop, I enjoyed my 30 year career and yes I was one of those "by the book supervisors" and when I was a patrolman I was also "by the book" and got promoted because of it, however, in those "down" times between tones and bells I see nothing wrong with playing cards, reading training manuals, playing pool, watching the tube, that seems OK to me, but, being on a city owned computer surfing for personal business to me is wrong and always will be. I would not want to do your job, it takes someone special to do that, yes, you sleep on the job and I have to admit that I have "cooped" a time or two in my days
as a patrolman, but, we always have to be "ON" and always "READY" and we have seconds to make decisions and sometimes we do screw up, but, for high paid Government Bureaucrats whether it be in a City, State and most Importantly in Federal Government this is a practice that has gone on long enough, my last employer was a Federal Agency and I can tell you horror stories about the groups of incompetents that I observed, now, I don't want to paint everyone with this broad brush, but, like I was told when I was a rookie by an old salt, "kid, if it walks like a duck,
quacks like a duck, has web feet and a bill, its not an elephant" and I am only talking about what I have
personally seen. Are Bureaucrats in danger? Do
they get "paper cuts" in their nice air conditioned
offices?? I never had that luxury and I am not complaining I am stating facts based on what I saw first hand. I respect your right to disagree with me
and you have made some very good points, however, my opinion is mine and I resent my tax dollars going to
people, who, based on my experience, are drains on our society and who play at work rather than work.

Mr. Ouellette --- Why you felt a need to spin a reasonable discussion about this board remaining or moving, to an attack on government workers and issues that have nothing to do with this thread is something from outer space. You seem to want to espouse your political views here, rather then using this board for what it is meant for, model emergency vehicles! Doing a Google search of your name comes up with a litany of your problems, including judgements against you, and an action by the Federal Government recovering monies overpaid to you under the Windfall Payment statues, Also, by your own words in one of the items found, your career as a police officer differs greatly from what you said here. I suggest you get your affairs in order, and don't bother worrying if someone surfs the net while at work. His or her supervisors will handle it. There are also many sites where you can express your political opinion. It doesn't belong here!

Now in regards to closing or leaving this site I will go with the majority, it doesn't really matter to me, suffice to say that Mr. Hawkins has done a wonderful job and perhaps he's decided to move on. As one of the original members here I can truly say that this has been a fun site and I have enjoyed it very much and made many wonderful friends here.

However, you know about my feelings about the Government and all the screwing around that goes on there, we both have seen that and that was what I was referring to, but, the more I think about it my resolve on this matter is even STRONGER, I don't care
what you do for a living or who you work for, you get
paid to WORK and not play. I know I could not in my jobs and my playing time on the puter was at home and I feel that this should apply to EVERYONE, its an opinion. I know you well enough and most of the oldtimers on this Board that the majority don't take offense on whether we agree or disagree with each other, its a FREE country the last time I looked. Even though you and I are on different sides of the political fence, and we have had some good discussions, that doesn't mean that I think any less of you, its just that politically YOU ARE WRONG, hahaha. In any event sorry for the wrong assumption on my part and in regards to whether we move or not I will still go with the majority, Jeff has done a great job and maybe now he's tired, I'm just guessing I really don't know. Larry has done a wonderful job

I have no problem with anybody posting what ever comments they want to on this board as long as they remember what this board is for. Your "attacks" have no place in this thread. If you have issue with others in this thread, open a new one but don't litter this or any other thread with unrelated things. If you want to "bash" others on the ATEV Board feel free but start a new thread and make sure you know who you are "bashing" before you insult the rong person.

Over the past week, I emailed Jeff two times about paying the fee and taking over this board. Even though Jeff has posted photos on the Code 3 Board this week, he has not returned my emails.
