Or just start a new bravenet board. Register with bravenet, pay a fee for non-pop ups, label the board like this board, and then start posting notes to this board saying "new board with no-pop ups at this address."
Bravenet charges a hefty $55.00 a year for a noncommercial board. A bit steep, considering you can register a domain and get web hosting for a few dollars more.
The real question would anyone abandon this board and go to the new one without commercials?
Someone or several of you can pay $55 for another board that can be configured to look and behave EXACTLY like this one, minus the pop-up ads.
Those folks could also tweak the new board, making the background all white or a lighter gray, etc. etc. Whatever.
Or, for no charge, everyone can start posting over at fireengines.net, which already exists, and behaves nearly identical to this board.
Or, for either no charge or a charge, one or more people can investigate starting a board using some other site, one that looks or behaves as closely to this one as possible.
Obviously, the only real asset behind this board are the posters and readers. So, collectively, what does everyone want? If we can collectively agree on a site that we'll start posting and reading to, then we can go somewhere else that doesn't have pop-ups that bug a percentage of this site's current users.
I agree with any proposal, or migrate to Fireengine.net or to a new forum to be open.
I agree to pay few dollars every year for a new board,
But Larry is right it's not a lot more expensive to pay a domain name.
Larry has a great site that offers more than just a board so why not move there since it is ready to go and offers much more than we can get here even if we pay a fee.
