I came across one of these at a thrift store and thought it was a faske representation of a real fire truck. It was mint in a box. I guess I should have bought it.

I'm not sure what you mean but the photo at the top of the page is a Tomica model from their limited/collectors range. I don't know how readily available they still are but initially they were around $10 each. Most likely the model was based on an actual rig from Japan.
