When I was on my way home from DIA at Bolling AFB a few days ago, as I was crossing the 14th Street Bridge out of DC heading into Virginia, I passed some interesting police vehicles headed into DC on the other side of the bridge. There were two LAVs (6-wheeled armored vehicles mainly used by the Marines, but these were the version with a gun turret), followed by two armored HMMVWs. One Hummer had a metal ramp mounted over its roof similar to a special ops aircraft assault ramp and the other had a large rack with what looked like deflated airbags in it. All 4 vehicles were painted dark blue with no visible markings. I was concentrating on the usual rush hour traffic so much I almost missed them (they were traveling in the normal traffic flow without flashing lights). I assume they were going to provide security at the Capitol during the State of the Union speech but I sure would like to know what agency owns them.
Sounds like something the U.S.S.S. might be using. They bought several specialty vehicles after 9/11 and the trucks were painted either bark blue or black. Wish you could have gotten pics. Just as an after thought, those who have camera/cell phones, don't forget you have them. I have wanted to take pics a couple of times, but forgot I had a camera on my cell.
Duhh, I meant to say above that these LAVs I saw were the version WITHOUT a gun turret...unfortunately, I didn't have a camera and my cell phone doesn't have one.
