A Boston firefighter was killed this afternoon and another is in critical condition when Ladder 26 went down a hill out of control and slammed into an apartment building unable to stop. According to news reports 3 other firefighters were also injured along with a number of civilians.
Very sad news. I've been watching the coverage online as the Boston area is where I grew up.
Ironically, the Lieutenant that was killed was a 30 year veteran and was featured on Discovery Channel's short lived "Firehouse USA-Boston (Engine 37/Ladder 26). Those of you that watched the show will remember him once you see his picture on the news.
Like John A I was raised just north of Boston and try to follow happenings back there. I received an email telling me of this breaking story yesterday. For those of us that are retired, still are on the job or are fire buffs it is always hard to hear of something like this. My condolances and prayers go out to the family of the Lieut. that lost his life and also to those of the other firefighters that were injured. Don Beckwith
There is a website for police officers killed in the line of duty, www.odmp.org. Does such a site exist for firefighters? There is a page to leave condolensces.
