FDNY Fire Apparatus MVA 10/24/09

For those that haven't heard, the FDNY suffered a major fire apparatus collision this morning about 9:43 AM New York time...

Engine Company 236 and Tower Ladder 107 collided at the corner of Ashford Street and Hegeman Avenue in the East New York section of Brooklyn.

Both WPIX (Channel 11) and WNBC (Channel 4) TV Stations in NYC had spectacular footage of the accident, showing the Brothers using the 'Jaws' to free the driver of the Tower Ladder, which, after the impact, ended up on its side on the driver's side of the rig. Reports stated the chauffer was pinned in the rig for just about two hours before being cut free.

According to TV reports, all twelve Brothers from both rigs required medical attention. The reports continued with an FDNY spokesman stating both rigs were responding with red lights and sirens to a gas leak emergency.

Just for the record, the Firehouses for Engine 236 and 107 Truck are about a mile from each other, and also within a mile and a half of the crash site.

Needless to say, our prayers go out to all the Brothers and their families involved with this terrible accident.
