They make their pleas for help on the Internet. Some are struggling single moms or recent college graduates loaded down with student loans and maxed-out credit cards. Others are childless couples seeking treatment for infertility. One site even makes a pitch for a cat named Buster.
The tales of woe vary. But the request is the same: They want people to send money or help by way of the Internet. They call it "cyberbegging"or "Internet panhandling".

My name is Jamie Jonas. I’m a student at the School of Healing Arts in San Diego, Ca, and I need your help. I’m three months away from getting my Holistic Health Practitioner certification – which includes working in nutritional counseling, massage and hypnotherapy. This week I am also starting a six-week training course to be a massage instructor, which I am very excited about.
Once I’m finished with school, I plan to teach massage and start a business in motivational coaching. My goal, and my talent, is helping people discover how to live life the way that they want to live it, to be inspired and excited about who they are and what they’re doing, at the same time healing emotional wounds and physical discomforts.
Four months ago, I was laid off of my job. I don't have enough money to buy food, and I'm behind on rent. I am now afraid that – after three years, hours and hours of studying and classes, as well as thousands of dollars in supplies and tuition – I won’t be able to finish school.
I REALLY WANT TO FINISH SCHOOL, so that I can pass on what I have learned, and teach others to have the same wonder and excitement for life that I do. So I have decided to do some fundraising to get through the remaining three months of school.
I need to raise $3,000 to make this happen. Everyone has something special to give in life, and everyone has special talents that they’re meant to share with the world. I’m asking for your help in sharing mine.
If you can help in any way – be it a monetary donation, words of encouragement, information that you think might be useful, anything at all – then please feel free to contact me.
