Where do I start? I never thought Id be posting/begging AT ALL. Im 44 yo and have had 6bypass surgery, stroke, hypertension, Cornonary artery disease,stents in my heart twice, severed achilles tendon....you get the picture. I also am widowed. My son(stepson)is 37 and is autistic, mentally retarded and considered blind. In the past 3 years with my downward spirlaing of health his mentally status has plummeted. He is now very violent and self abussive. He has also been diagnosed with renal failure, kidneys currently functioning at 50% and looking at diaylsis on down the road. I have recently asked for government help (Aug 08) and can not receive it! He isnt homeless, and has not been hospitalized so therefore he doesnt qualify and is on a list for "assistance" that has around a 2 year waiting list depending on goverment funds available. He receives the least amoutn of SS benefits you get. Some of his medications ARE NOT covered. Such as the meds that take care of the violent/self abussive behaviours that he has daily. I have been on disability for few years myself due to my poor health. I take 11 medications myself. Most are covered somewhat on my disability. Between my son and I we have around $200 that is NOT covered by his plan nor mine. With the cost of things going so high I had been trying to make it. Id use the amount of available credit Id have after making the payment to get medicines. I would always get my sons and then, well alot of times, mine just gets filled when it can be done. I feel so inadequate for providing for us. My isssue is having to live on credit cards (most with $500 limit and one having 29% interest). That has come to a screeching halt as I can no longer afford to get the meds, pay for electricity and feed me and my son. Due to his renal diagnosis and diet, as long as his food is seperate from mine, he receives foodstamps, a major blessing. I am just at the end. I can no longer purchase his meds, mine and feed and shelter us. I have talked with these debt resolution places that you pay your payment to and they bargain your credit balance down and make the payment, of course with their fees added. I feel the only way I can get from out from under this debt and be able to provide adequate food, meds without missing a day, including mine so i am at my best potential to take care of him/us is bankruptcy. I have no way of getting this much money and continuing taking care of us. I guess Im asking, begging for help on this. If I can get the debts resolved, with his income and mine I should be able to provide the essentials for us to survive. At that time, I m hoping I could be the one on the other end extending my hand to help as I have done for others in the past.
