1951 summer at Matzuba

In July 1951 I came with a group from Havat Halimud in Jerusalem to work on Kibbutz Matzuva. I worked in the tobacco field digging with a small turiya. It was back-breaking work and I hated it. Our madrich was a 25 year old named Elyakim Haetzni who became famous in law & politics and was a member of Knesset and a founder of Kiryat Arba in Hebron. He is now 92 years old. The members of the kibbutz were friendly. The food was terrible. And the toilets were holes in the ground which we had to dig ourselves. The only happy memory I have is the occasions when we were able to go to Nahariya. I have never been back to Matzuba. Kibbutz life was not for me. I live happily in Rishon Lezion without a turiya. Hayu zmanim !!!
