Brooklyn Follies is the first book I've read by Paul Auster. He is an excellent writer, but I am disappointed that he has is so grossly - or is it deliberately - misinformed about US politics. Perhaps if he is British he has an excuse.
None of the characters were people to be admired or even acquainted with. In what Mr. Auster perhaps felt as a triumph of the human spirit left me depressed and sad.
I work with lost children. Children in gangs, street kids, abused kids, kids sold as sex slaves. None of the seemy characters in that awful book could even touch the beauty inside my children.
