thanks for this, but I have read some literature by most of these authors, and while they have influenced Auster indeed. they are very different in style... (I mean.. shakespeare). Thoreau's introspection is probably what comes closest in terms of evoked themes, but then Don de Lillo influenced auster as well and is closer... yet not enough for me to enjoy it as much as Auster. Another forum member suggested Milan Kundera. I think there could indeed be something there... I discovered Kundera before Auster and I have to go back to it to try and give it a new go or to read different books from him indeed. As far as Pamuk is concerned I haven't heard from him so I will look it up. Thanks for replying anyway. And happy reading.
