In Travels in the Scriptorium, the character Trause is obviously an anagram for Auster. But what about N.R. Fanshawe? It looks like an obvious anagram, but I don't seem to be able to figure it out? Can someone help? Ellen
Fanshawe is the name of N. Hawthorne's first novel. Auster discusses this in printed interviews found in The Art of Hunger.
