I just finished Danielewski's "House of Leaves," which is strange and fascinating, and I think it fits neatly into a small collection of American fiction on meta-fictional paradox structures.... What else would go into this list? Haunted spaces, locked room mysteries:
Henry James's... "Jolly Corner"?? (among others)
Shirley Jackson's "We Have Always Lived in the Castle"
(I guess Stephen King's "The Shining" should be included)
Morrison (I kind of dislike this writer), "Beloved"?
what else???
From abroad: McEwan's "The Cement Garden" and Ishiguro's "The Unconsoled" come to mind... what else?
(Let's keep the list, if possible, in the domain of American and English writers, for now.)
