Has anyone noticed that the titles of The New York Trilogy are shifted by one? I mean, 'City of Glass' is a suitable title for 'Ghosts', 'Ghosts' for 'The Locked Room' and 'The Locked Room' for 'City of Glass'. Peter Stillman had been locked in a room, Blue looks at Black through the window glass, and Fanshawe is a ghost coming back.
Of the interviews I've read/watched, I haven't heard Mr. Auster say anything about this. I hadn't really thought about it before, but it's possible.
It may be just as likely that his threads run throughout the trilogy in a way that naturally lends itself to the titles' crossing over, an "accident" if I dare say.
