HURLEY, DONOGHUE, SPILLANE, SULLIVAN from Bantry, Cork

Would like to connect with others researching the Bantry area, especially Hurley, Donoghue (all variations), Spillane and Sullivan.

I am just beginning trying to locate the history of my Cork connection... Elizabeth Sullivan born on or about 24 Dec 1877. She went to America late 1890s, settled in Rhode Island. I do not know her parents names! Believed that she a couple brothers who may have come to America ahead of her. I have a long way to go, no doubt!! She married a Winsor, had female cousins last name Mullaney.

Hi Susan,

The good news is, Providence is where John Hurley,b. 1830 Bantry, m. Mary Donoghue, b. 1838 Bantry and Mary Spillane, Mary Donoghue's mother, settled. The bad news is, Margaret Sullivan, John Hurley's mother, did not make it to the USA. She is buried in Bantry Abby in Ireland. That does not mean Margaret's relatives did not come to Rhode Island. I have found Sullivan's living near John and Mary and I believe I found a Sullivan on one of their children's Baptism records. Let's pursue this further to see if we can come up with a connection through your Sullivan line. Send me what you have and I'll search my records to see if there is a match. If I can be of help as you begin your search, let me know that, too. I live about 30-45 minutes from Providence, RI. If you would like, send your info to me at pstacar at gmail dot com. We might find it easier to communicate.

Hi Ty,

So far, Bantry and Providence, RI are my main areas for research. Some of Mary Donoghue's siblings migrated to Arkansas and Iowa. Good luck with your search.

My second great grandfather was, Timothy Spillane (Splane, Splain), b.1835 in Cork d. 1872 in Groton, CT. I would be interested in what your Spillane connection is in Cork.
