I am trying to research Samuel Millar (or Miller) & Susan Trimble who married in Cookstown, County Tyrone, 14 Oct 1890. What I'm actually looking for is Samuel's life in Ireland, ie his family. Samuel was born to Alexander according to the marriage certificate, but I can find no further info. I know Samuel was born in the range of the mid-1860s to the early 1870s. They came to the US in the early 1890s, shortly after they married, & settled in Massachusetts. Samuel appears in the 1900, 1910, 1920, & 1930 censuses... & all with different birth dates & all with different immigration dates. Family lore says Samuel came from County Armagh & that the spelling of Millar was changed to Miller when they came over.
I'm not looking for actual info on Samuel, but I am asking for ideas on how to break down this wall of inconsistent info in order to determine his lineage. Any tips/ideas would be greatly appreciated. (Yes, I am on Ancestry & feel I've exhausted their sources.)
