I am an Australian researcher with Irish ancestors. I would like to to connect with other Carroll and or Gleeson researchers.
Thomas Carroll was the son of John Carroll and Margaret Slattery. He was born in November 1818 in Tipperary. He married Bridget Gleeson in about 1836 in Tipperary. She was born in about 1816 and was the daughter of Norah Kearney. In 1838 they emigrated to NSW.
I would like to find out more about these two families and get more specific dates. Any advice about doing this would be most welcome.
Greg - I saw your 2008 message re: Gleeson and while I think it might be a very long shot, still thought I should contact you.
My g-g-g-grandmother was Mary Gleeson (although some in the family say it might have been Glisson or Gleason) was married to Patrick Darmody/Dermody. Patrick's dates are estimated to be c.1790 - c.1857. They emigrated from Ireland to Canada about late 1820s or very early 1830s. Patrick got a land petition in 1832. He had been in the 67th Foot Regiment and was given a land petition at discharge. He was in Canada when he got the land petition in 1832.
These dates seem to be similar to those of your Gleeson. Not sure if there is any connection, but as I say, worth a try.
Hi there. My 4 th great grandparents are John Carroll and Margaret slattery. I believe that their daughter Bridget is the sister of your Thomas.
I cant seem to find any information on Bridget, but that she was born in Ireland and married a Henry Gillett who came to Australia and settled in NSW. There is a whole book about the Gillett line and I have some information, but can't seem to trace much back before John and Margaret. I would be grateful for any information you have of the family.
Do you by any chance know where in Co Tipperay your John Carroll and Margaret Slattery lived? My gggrandfather was Patrick Carroll from the Clonmel area and since they named their first son John b. 1815, I am assuming Patricks father was John. A Walter Slattery was a baptismal sponsor for A Carroll child. Do you have any other family names? Thanks Carol Sherer
