LaFrance

Could someone take a moment to explain to me what exaclty the 'LaFrance' means? Or, perhaps refer me to some text?

The reason I am asking is because I don't understand how Ward-LaFrance and American-LaFrance fit togeather.

As I understand it, ALF was first, then came WLF, then ALF again. Was this a temporary buy out by the Ward company?

Please don't laugh too hard...I just don't know this.

Re: LaFrance

Here is some history. Better than most of us here could provide.

American LaFrance

Ward LaFrance

Same Family and in basically the same town. I bet Thanksgiving was a treat.

Re: LaFrance

JEFF,

For a good general read of the ALF story get the book "100 Years of American LaFrance" by Walt McCall. Softcover, 176 pps and 327 B&W fotos. Publisher is Iconografix. Book is ISBN 1-58388-139-5. List price is $32.95 Hope The ALF name survives, new owners have already closed down the Becker operation after stating that they would not.

Re: LaFrance

Thanks Paul and Jeff!

I now have a much better understanding of what the LaFrance is is all about. Hopefully your posts above have helped more that just myself in help with the question.
